Sustainability & Skateboarding

Sustainability has become a hot topic in the skateboard industry. As the industry continues to grow, sustainability is becoming an increasingly important factor for skateboard companies, as they strive to make their products more sustainable and reduce their environmental impact. Earth Team One is one of those brands, where our goal is to have sustainable, regenerative, ethical practices in order to create boards that you can feel good about buying, without sacrificing any of the performance of a pro-grade skateboard.

When it comes to sustainability in skateboard brands, the focus is often on the materials used in the manufacturing process. Many brands are now using sustainable materials such as bamboo and recycled plastic to create their decks. Bamboo is a renewable resource, meaning it can be harvested without causing damage to the environment, and it’s also incredibly strong and lightweight, making it a great choice for skateboard decks.

Earth Team One however uses 100% Canadian Maple that is sustainably grown and harvested, using organic binders and lacquers, and produced with fair labour.

In addition to the materials used, skateboard companies are also taking steps to reduce their energy consumption and lessen their carbon footprint. By using more efficient production methods and reducing the amount of energy used in the manufacturing process, skateboard companies can make a big difference in their environmental impact.

Our Bullswax for example, is one of those products that uses a carbon-negative process, thereby greatly reducing our carbon footprint.

Skateboard companies are also taking steps to reduce the amount of packaging they use. By utilizing more sustainable packaging materials and reducing the amount of packaging used, brands can reduce their environmental impact and keep more waste out of landfills.

Finally, many skateboard brands, are also looking for ways to give back and support environmental causes. This can include donating money to environmental charities and even creating their own initiatives to help reduce the environmental impact of their production. Earth Team One is a good example, as 20% of revenue is donated each year to environmental causes.

Overall, sustainability is becoming an increasingly important factor for skateboard companies, as they strive to make their products more sustainable and reduce their environmental impact. By utilizing more sustainable materials, reducing energy consumption, reducing packaging, and reducing their water consumption, we can make a positive difference in our environmental footprint and help protect the planet while we keep pushing.
